How useful do you think the collection of this data would be to the insurance industry?
The anatomy of the IoT seems to be slowly emerging into some broad categories (Healthcare, Autos, Environmental Monitoring, Buildings, Agriculture, Transportation, Manufacturing). The list of items available right now is already impressive with many more in the pipeline; ranging from agriculture (accurately predicting the sex of 80% of the bovine population for the coming season) to construction (commercial building sensors which monitor temperature, occupancy, building integrity and humidity). They all have a couple of things in common though; they transmit data and they need to be successfully connected to other "things" which requires standardisation. The data is only of use when it is collected together and will be of more use when analysed against similar or correlating data from other places.
